Filming another shot...

As we have now decided to incorporate the idea of arson into our storyline as a way of Sarah deciding to go and visit the restored house, we are going to film several new shots:

  • A shot of a match being dropped
  • The camera following the match as it falls
  • A close up of the match just after it has been lit
  • Some paper burning after the match has made contact with it
We went back to Emily's house to film, taking the Sony camera, tripod and microphone with us. For this wedid the filming in Emily's kitchen. For the dropping of the match we put a bowl of water underneath for it to fall into. Lucinda did the dropping of the match and she put on some brown gloves so that you could not tell whether the hand was a male or female one, and this worked even better as we waited until it was dark outside before we filmed, meaning that we could switch the lights off in the kitchen.

We did several shots of the match being dropped, as well as close ups of the flame, so that we have a variety to choose from. For the shot where the paper is set alight we put a baking tray underneath, scrunched up some paper, and then placed the match inside. However, we were cautious, and we only filmed for a maximum of 15 seconds before we placed the burning paper into the bowl of water and then took it to the sink to pour more water over. We got four shots of the paper on fire, until we decided that the room was too smoky!

I feel that the shots went really well as we got a variety of them, and I think that they will look really effective when incorporated into our trailer.
