Analysis of a teaser trailer 2: Wild Child

I have chosen to analyse this trailer as it is one of my favourite films. Wild Child is a 2008 film which is American/ British/ French. It is a film for teenagers and contains romance, tragedy and drama. It is about a girl named Poppy Moore who lost her mother when she was younger. Her father gets fed up with her bad behaviour and sends her to a boarding school in England, where she begins to change and realise vital things in her life.

Camera Angles/Movement: close-ups, an establishing shot of the boarding school, long shots, an extreme long shot of Poppy and Freddy as they sit together.


Editing: Faster pace towards the end, date of release and institutional information are shown, the soundtrack fits in with emotionally with what is happening.


Sound: diagetic e.g. her friends screaming when she jups in the sea, dialogue, soundtrack, non- diagetic such as the extra clip at the end where Poppy is in the hairdressers.

Mise-En-Scene: The way Poppy's hair goes from being blonde to brunette- a change in character- it hints at the narrative and there is a contrast between the outfits worn when it is set in America to when it is set in England.

Analysis of a teaser trailer 1: Bad Teacher

Bad Teacher is a 2011 comedy which was released on June 17th in the UK. It was directed by Jake Kasdan, and stars Cameron Diaz and Justin Timerlake.


Camera Angles/Movement: close-ups, POV shot when characters are speaking to each other, an establishing shot of the table in the fast food outlet, long shots of people as they walk around the school, extreme close-up of the watch


Editing: certain words are blocked out, it shows the names of the actors/actresses on what looks like a piece of paper torn at the edges, date of release and institutional information are shown


Sound: diagetic e.g. the school bell and the police car crashing, humour is incorporated in the dialogue, a voice-over is used


Mise-En-Scene: In the scene where the car wash is being done Cameron Diaz is dressed in a very sexy way, which fits in with the music and dialogue.

Rise of the planet of the apes on Prezi

This is a prezi that I created with two other girls in my media class, as we are working as a group to create the teaser trailer. We had to present them in class, and the purpose was to find out about a film and how it was marketed. In the prezi we looked at all the different areas involved in a teaser trailer: names of actors/ actresses, the use of websites such as Facebook, and the plot to the film.

Introduction

For this A2 Coursework we have to create a promotional package. The main task which is the filming and editing of a teaser trailer will be done in groups. I will to choose two of the three from this list: a poster, a website, a film magazine cover, and create them for the teaser trailer that we have made. This means that I will need to do research into other fim trailers and analyse them according to the Camera Angles/Movement, Editing, Mise-En-Scene and Sound. I will also have to carry out market research for the target audience so that we can see what they want from a teaser trailer, which names they prefer and which genre they enjoy to watch.

As we are working in a group for this task we will split the work evenly, making sure that everyone gets a chance to film, plan, edit, direct, put across their ideas and choose suitable actors/actresses. I think that through doing this piece of coursework we will learn important things about teaser trailers and what people expect from them. The smaller tasks that I will carry out on my own will help me to gain knowledge into the overall construction of a promotional package.
